Growing in Christ–Part III–the Fellowship of Believers

The Fellowship of Believers

Now we come to one of the horizontal arms of the Disciple’s Cross. Part I of this series dealt with Jesus Christ, the center of the cross. A close, personal relationship with Jesus Christ always is the center of a growing Christian’s life. Parts I and II also testified to the importance of prayer and Bible study. This post focuses on fellowship.

Growth is a basic activity in a Christian’s life. This life begins when a person receives Jesus Christ as Savior and is reborn as a child of God. According to John 1: 12-13,

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. (NAS)

Growing in Christ — Part II The Bible

Reading and Studying the Bible

The Bible is God’s word.

Part I of this essay explored the steps taken by brand new Christians who want to grow in Christ. When a person accepts Jesus Christ as Savior, he (or she) begins a new life.  The Bible says that person is reborn as a child of God.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God.   John 1: 12-13 (NAS)

Part I also examined the changes in a Christian as he grows from a newborn babe to a mature adult.  As we continue in Christ we are transformed into His likeness.  As the Bible says in II Corinthians 3: 18:

Growing in Christ — Part I

A Growing Relationship with the Living God

When a person accepts Jesus Christ into their heart, he (or she) becomes a Christian. But that’s only the beginning. The Bible says you are reborn as a child of God.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1: 12-13 (NAS)

The Bible also says Christians are a new creation in Christ Jesus:

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. II Corinthians 5: 17 (NAS)

Becoming a Christian is just the beginning of a fantastic new life. The apostle Paul introduces us to this new life in Colossians 2: 6-7

Therefore as you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. (NAS)

What is it like to be a new creation in Jesus Christ? Well, to begin with, you have an exciting new life. You are connected to and residing in a living relationship with the great God—the creator of the universe! You are aware of a new set of standards for living. There is so much to learn; so much to experience. Where do you start?

Atheist Beliefs — Part III

Atheist Beliefs

Part III – Scientific Racism

racism-disclaimer

Atheism is a belief system. Atheists don’t like to admit it but it is. They want us to believe atheism is based on scientific facts, not beliefs. However, the basic tents of atheism are unproven and cannot be proven. You must believe atheist doctrine in order to be an atheist.

This discussion of atheist beliefs is divided into three sections. The first section examined ancient atheist beliefs. Lucretius produced the most complete statement of this system of belief during the first century B.C. in his book On the Nature of Things. The second section concerns the growth of atheism and the application of atheist doctrine to new areas such as science and business. This third section discusses one of the ugliest developments of atheism—scientific racism.
